Since suffering three losses in non-conference play early in the season, Davidson has quietly built its record to 20-3, and has the look of a team that no one will want to matchup with the Big Dance. On Saturday, the Wildcats will try to hold off the advances of the College of Charleston, one of the tougher opponents on the Southern Conference slate. Tip-time is 6:00 PM ET, and the Deuce brings you the action.
The College of Charleston (16-6, 7-10 ATS) is an exceptional shooting team at 47.9 percent and work the ball expertly in coach Bobby Cremins system. In spite of playing so well most of the year, they have defensive shortcomings that have shown during conference play, which is why they have come up short frequently against the spread with 4-8 ATS mark. They went after Davidson hard at home on Dec. 29, losing 79-75 as 5.5-point underdogs and will need guard Andrew Goudelock and forward Jermaine Johnson to have monster games. C.O.C. is 7-5 and 2-5 ATS on the road this season.
While the Davidson (20-3, 11-9-1 ATS) offense receives most of the acclaim, it has been the defense that has been the real story for coach Bob McKillop club, who puts a premium on that end of the floor. The Wildcats have held 15 foes under 40 percent shooting, which fits the coach’s thinking. Even with Stephen Curry, the Wildcats are set up to be selfless. "I'm very sure and confident that if you ask some of the guys what our record is, they probably don't know. They can't tell you straight up when's the last time they were thinking about it." said forward Andrew Lovedale. Davidson is 52-23-2 ATS off a victory.
Davidson is on 10-0 and 8-2 ATS march against the Cougars.
